Why cheap Golden Retriever puppies are a red flag

Listings well below S$4,000 usually mean undocumented imports, no AVS licence behind the sale, or puppies moved on before they are ready to leave their litter. Ask any seller for their AVS licence number, the breeder's name and the puppy's health records before you place a deposit — we're happy for you to ask us the same questions.

HDB rules and housing

Golden Retrievers are not on HDB's approved small-dog list, so they can only be kept in private condominiums or landed homes. Condo owners should also check their MCST by-laws, as some developments cap dog weight or restrict lift access for large breeds. If you live in an HDB flat, an approved alternative like a Maltipoo, Cavapoo or Japanese Spitz gives you the same affectionate temperament in a compact size.

Space, exercise and daily routine

An adult Golden needs 60–90 minutes of activity daily, split into a cooler morning walk and an evening session. They are indoor dogs — never kennelled outside in Singapore's climate — and they do best with a shaded or air-conditioned rest spot, a non-slip floor area for play, and mental work such as scent games or training drills on rainy days.

Family, kids and other pets

Goldens are famously tolerant with children and settle quickly alongside cats and smaller dogs when introduced properly. Supervise toddlers during the bouncy 4–10 month stage: a growing Golden simply doesn't yet know its own size. You're welcome to bring your kids — and your current dog, with a diaper on — to meet our puppies at the showroom.

Managing heat and humidity

Walk before 9am and after 7pm, test the pavement with the back of your hand, and always carry water. Watch for heavy panting, brick-red gums, drooling or wobbliness — early signs of heat stress. Cool with room-temperature water on the belly and paws and call your vet immediately.

Coat, skin and grooming

Brush two to three times a week to keep the double coat ventilated — never shave it, as the undercoat is what insulates against heat. Dry thoroughly after every bath or swim; damp fur in our humidity is the main cause of hot spots. Check and dry the ears weekly, since floppy-eared breeds are prone to yeast infections here.

Feeding, joints and growth

Feed a large-breed puppy formula with controlled calcium to support steady joint development, split across three meals until six months. Avoid stair sprints and long jogs on hard ground before 12 months, and keep your puppy lean — excess weight is the single biggest contributor to hip and elbow problems in the breed.

Vet care and health screening

Complete the vaccination series and start heartworm prevention on schedule — mosquitoes make heartworm a year-round risk in Singapore. Annual checks should cover hips, elbows, eyes and heart. Every Golden we import arrives with breeder health records so your vet has full history from day one.

From breeder to our East Coast Road showroom

Puppies stay with their litter until they are old enough to travel, fly on approved routes, then clear AVS import and quarantine requirements before arriving with us. Each puppy is examined by our vet on arrival, settled at the showroom, and only listed once we're satisfied it is healthy and comfortable.

Book a private meet-and-greet at 278 East Coast Road, Singapore 428944. You'll meet the puppy in a quiet room, see the health records and import paperwork, and talk through food, crate setup and the first week at home. All collections happen in-store so we can hand over properly — we don't deliver puppies.
