Why cheap Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppies are a red flag

Listings well below S$3,800 usually mean undocumented imports, no AVS licence behind the sale, or puppies moved on before they were ready to leave their litter. Ask any seller for their AVS licence number, the breeder's name and the puppy's health records before you place a deposit — we're happy for you to ask us exactly the same questions in person.

Deposits, payment and what happens next

A deposit reserves a specific Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy and is only taken after you've met the puppy or seen full video and paperwork. The balance is settled at collection in our showroom, where we walk you through the health records, feeding plan and the first week at home. Our 48-hour health guarantee covers certain specified genetic diseases where a certified vet declares the puppy unfit to be sold. It is subject to terms; ask us for the full conditions.

HDB rules and housing

Pembroke Welsh Corgi is not named on the HDB Schedule and is not for an HDB flat. It may suit a private condominium, subject to its MCST rules, or a landed home. Japanese Spitz is named on the Schedule. A Maltipoo may qualify only if both parents are listed breeds (Maltese and Toy or Miniature Poodle). Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is named (item 12), so a Cavapoo can qualify under item 62 only if both parents are Schedule breeds and the Poodle parent is a Toy or Miniature; do not assume it is approved. Cocker Spaniel is not on the Schedule, so a Cockapoo is not an approved cross. A full-grown Corgi weighs about 10–14 kg. Space, exercise and daily routine

Corgis are herding dogs in a compact frame and need 45–60 minutes of walking plus problem-solving games every day, or they'll invent their own entertainment. Whatever the breed, walks in Singapore belong in the cooler hours — before roughly 9am and after 7pm — with water on hand and a quick pavement temperature check with the back of your hand. On rainy days, swap the walk for scent games, puzzle feeders or short training drills indoors.

Family, kids and other pets

Corgis are confident, funny and devoted family dogs, though their herding instinct means they may nudge running children — easily managed with early redirection training. You're welcome to bring your children to meet our puppies at the showroom so you can see the dynamic for yourself before deciding.

Temperament, training and neighbours

Smart, bold and naturally vocal, a Corgi needs early training on quiet cues and plenty of mental work to keep the mischief in check. Start crate training and toilet routines from day one, keep training sessions short and reward-based, and socialise your puppy with lifts, void decks and delivery trolleys early — in dense Singapore housing, a confident dog is a quiet dog.

Managing heat and humidity

Corgis run low to the ground and heat up quickly off hot pavement, so stick to grass, early mornings and evenings, and keep sessions short in the afternoon. Watch for heavy panting, brick-red gums, thick drool or wobbliness — the early signs of heat stress. Cool your dog with room-temperature water on the belly and paws, never ice water, and call your vet immediately.

Coat, skin and grooming

The short double coat sheds year-round with heavier seasonal blowouts; brush two to three times a week, daily when moulting, and bathe monthly with thorough drying. Dry the coat thoroughly after every bath — damp fur in our humidity is the single biggest cause of hot spots and yeast — and check ears weekly, as Singapore's climate makes ear infections common in dogs with drop or heavily coated ears.

Feeding and healthy growth

Measure meals carefully — Corgis gain weight easily, and extra kilos on a long back significantly raise the risk of spinal problems. Keep your puppy lean; excess weight is the most avoidable contributor to joint problems later in life. Fresh water should always be available, and food portions adjusted every few weeks as your puppy grows.

Vet care and health screening

Protect the back: no jumping off sofas or repeated stair sprints as a puppy. Ask about hip and degenerative myelopathy screening in the parent lines. Complete the vaccination series on schedule and start heartworm prevention early — mosquitoes make heartworm a year-round risk in Singapore. Every Pembroke Welsh Corgi we import arrives with breeder health records, so your own vet has full history from the very first visit.

Puppies stay with their litter until they are old enough to travel, fly on approved routes, then clear AVS import and quarantine requirements before arriving with us. Each puppy is examined by our vet on arrival, settled at the showroom, and only listed once we're satisfied it is healthy, eating well and comfortable with people.
