Golden Retriever Cost of Ownership Singapore: Puppy Price + First-Year Budget
26 Oct 2026 9 min read
How much does a Golden Retriever cost in Singapore? As a guide, expect roughly S$5,500–S$8,500 for the puppy itself at an AVS-licensed shop, then about S$200–S$350 a month once it is home — food, grooming and preventives included. Add a first-year set-up and you are looking at a rough S$8,000–S$13,500 band before cooling and any unexpected vet bills. A Golden is also not an HDB breed, so this only works in a condo or landed home whose by-laws allow a 25–34 kg dog. If that budget or housing does not fit, we would rather say so before you WhatsApp us.
Furgive You SG is an AVS-licensed puppy shop (Licence AS24C00019) at 278 East Coast Road, Singapore 428944, open Tuesday to Sunday, 12pm–6pm, by appointment, and closed on Mondays. Our Golden Retrievers are ethically imported from overseas breeders through our licensed shop. We do not breed locally.
2026 Golden Retriever puppy price bands in Singapore
Our Golden Retriever page quotes a 2026 guide band of about S$5,500–S$8,500. The same band appears in our puppy price guide. The spread usually comes down to coat colour, age on arrival and litter size — cream and lighter English-type Goldens often sit higher because fewer are exported each season.
That number is a guide range, not a fixed price list. Availability changes with each litter. Individual puppies can sit anywhere in that band, so confirm the figure for any specific puppy with us before you plan around it.
Our hub’s own red-flag line is useful: listings well below S$4,000 usually mean undocumented imports, no AVS licence behind the sale, or puppies moved on before they were ready to leave their litter. Ask any seller — including us — for the AVS licence number, the breeder’s name and the health records before you place a deposit.
What’s included at an AVS-licensed shop
At Furgive You SG the quoted price is the price you pay at collection. Our Golden Retriever hub lists these as included:
- age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming
- AVS microchip and registration paperwork
- AVS dog licence transferred to you
- vaccination card and vet health certificate to take home
- import permits, health certificates and quarantine compliance
- clearance through AVS import checks
- a puppy starter kit (a bag of puppy kibble and a training leash)
- lifetime WhatsApp aftercare with our team
There is no separate import surcharge, vaccination top-up or microchip fee added at the counter. Our puppy price guide notes that some sellers quote the puppy only and bill import, vaccination, microchip or vet clearance separately — those add-ons can realistically run S$800–S$2,000. Compare like with like: ask for a written breakdown of what the number covers.
First-year budget: food, vet, grooming and training
The purchase price is only part of year one. Our hub budgets roughly S$200–S$350 a month once a Golden Retriever puppy is home:
- premium large-breed food: S$90–S$150 a month
- professional grooming every 6–8 weeks: S$70–S$120 per session
- heartworm, tick and flea prevention: S$30–S$50 a month
- annual vaccination and health check: S$150–S$300 a year
- pet insurance (optional): S$40–S$90 a month
Grooming is the line you can work out. At one groom every 6–8 weeks, that is about six to nine grooms a year, or roughly S$420–S$1,080 a year at the hub’s per-session range. That is our arithmetic from the published figures, not a quote.
First-year guide. Add twelve months of the monthly band to the puppy guide band and you get roughly S$7,900–S$12,700. Our puppy price guide estimates one-off set-up — crate, playpen, bedding, bowls, harness, lead, grooming tools, toys and puppy pads — at about S$400–S$800. With that included, a rough first-year picture is S$8,300–S$13,500, before cooling costs and any emergency vet visit. Our price guide notes that a single ordinary gastrointestinal upset can run S$300–S$1,500, which is why a buffer or insurance is worth planning for.
Training is the cost that rarely shows up as a single line. Goldens are eager to please, but a growing 25–34 kg dog still needs recall, loose-leash walking and a settle-on-a-mat habit. Budget time for short daily sessions, and for a group class or private trainer if you want structured help in the first months. Every dog in Singapore also needs an AVS dog licence. AVS’s licence fees page (updated 1 September 2026) lists a one-year licence for one of your first three dogs at S$15 if sterilised or S$90 if not sterilised, and S$15 for a dog under five months old. A sterilised dog can instead have a one-time S$35 licence that lasts its lifetime. AVS quotes these fees before a 10% rebate for paying online, by GIRO or via AXS. Check that page for the latest figures when you register.
Private housing vs HDB honesty
HDB flats: no. Under the Housing and Development (Animals) Rules 2024, a residential HDB lessee may keep one dog only, and it must be an “applicable dog”: a breed named in the Schedule, or a dog adopted under a rehoming scheme that HDB names. The Schedule is a named list of 61 breeds plus item 62, a cross of any two of them. It is not a size or weight test. The Golden Retriever is not on it. HDB’s Keeping Pets page shows the same list and says owners who breach the rule can be fined up to $4,000.
The Rules also say that keeping any other dog needs HDB’s prior written permission. Don’t count on that. HDB does not describe it as a public route for buyers, and nobody can promise it. We will not sell a Golden Retriever to an HDB household on the hope that permission comes later.
Condos and landed homes: possibly, after checking. Private housing sits outside the HDB Schedule, but MCST by-laws may cap dog size or weight, or restrict lift use and common areas. Check them against an adult of about 25–34 kg before you pay a deposit.
A Goldendoodle does not fix the HDB problem either. It is a Golden Retriever × Poodle cross, and because the Golden Retriever is not on the Schedule, the cross does not fall under item 62, whatever its size. See our Goldendoodle page for that honesty in full.
Climate and exercise
An adult Golden needs 60–90 minutes of activity a day, split into a cooler morning walk and an evening session, plus mental work on rainy days. Our hub and care guide both put walks at before 9am and after 7pm, with water on hand and a pavement check with the back of your hand. Goldens are indoor dogs in Singapore — never kennelled outside — and they do best with a shaded or air-conditioned rest spot and non-slip flooring for play.
Heat is the other half of the cost. Air-conditioning shows up on the utilities bill every month; we do not publish a figure because it depends on your home and tariff. Budget for it honestly. Watch for heavy panting, brick-red gums, thick drool or wobbliness — early signs of heat stress. Cool the belly and paws with room-temperature water (never ice water) and call your vet immediately. This is general guidance, not veterinary advice.
Coat care sits on the grooming bill already counted above. Brush two to three times a week, never shave the double coat, and dry thoroughly after every bath or swim — a damp undercoat in our humidity is a common trigger for hot spots. For the full care picture, read Taking Care of Golden Retrievers.
Importer vs “breeder” wording
People searching “golden retriever breeder singapore” are often looking for a responsible source, not a backyard litter. Furgive You SG is an AVS-licensed pet shop and importer, not a local breeding kennel. We work with a small number of ethical overseas breeders — kennels we know by name — mainly in Australia and Ireland, where puppies are raised in a family home rather than a commercial facility. Puppies stay with their litter until they are old enough to travel, fly on approved routes, clear AVS import and quarantine requirements, and settle at our East Coast Road showroom before they are listed.
Ask us the same questions you should ask anyone: our AVS Licence AS24C00019, the breeder’s name and country, the vaccination card and health certificate, and whether you can meet the puppy in person before a deposit. Collections happen in-store only; we do not deliver puppies.
Golden Retriever vs Goldendoodle cost
| Golden Retriever | Goldendoodle | |
|---|---|---|
| Guide puppy band | S$5,500–S$8,500 | S$4,500–S$7,500 |
| Monthly guide | S$200–S$350 | S$180–S$320 |
| Adult size | about 25–34 kg | miniatures 10–15 kg; medium/standard 20–30 kg |
| Coat | double coat; brush 2–3× a week; never shave | wavy, usually lower-shedding; groom every 6–8 weeks |
| HDB flat | No | No |
A Goldendoodle often sits a little lower on the puppy band and may leave less loose hair at home, but its coat mats and needs regular clipping — our Goldendoodle hub lists grooming at S$80–S$140 per session. If you would rather brush than book a groomer every six to eight weeks, a Golden can be the simpler coat. Neither breed is HDB-approved. If the cross sounds like the better fit, our Goldendoodle Singapore page has the current guide band, the waitlist and what is included.
FAQs
How much is a Golden Retriever puppy in Singapore?
At Furgive You SG the 2026 guide band is about S$5,500–S$8,500, depending on coat colour, age on arrival and litter size. The quoted price is the price at collection, with no separate import surcharge, vaccination top-up or microchip fee.
What does the first year cost beyond the puppy price?
Budget roughly S$200–S$350 a month for food, grooming and preventives, plus about S$400–S$800 for set-up. A rough first-year guide is S$7,900–S$12,700 before set-up, or about S$8,300–S$13,500 with it, before cooling and emergencies. Those are arithmetic from our published ranges, not a quote.
Are Golden Retrievers allowed in HDB flats?
No. The Golden Retriever is not named in the Schedule to the Housing and Development (Animals) Rules 2024, which is a named list rather than a weight test. Don’t plan on special permission after you buy. Condo and landed owners should check their MCST by-laws.
Do you breed Golden Retrievers in Singapore?
No. We are an AVS-licensed importer and pet shop. Our Golden Retrievers are ethically imported from overseas breeders and cleared through AVS before they reach our East Coast Road showroom.
What is included in the puppy price?
Age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming, AVS microchip and registration, the AVS dog licence transferred to you, a vaccination card and vet health certificate, import permits and quarantine compliance, clearance through AVS import checks, a starter kit and lifetime WhatsApp aftercare.
Can a Golden Retriever cope with Singapore’s heat?
Yes, with care: walks before 9am and after 7pm, water on hand, a cool indoor rest area, and a budget for air-conditioning. Watch for heat-stress signs and call your vet if you see them.
