Goldendoodle Singapore: Care, Coat, Cost & Suitability Guide

5 Oct 2026 9 min read

Honest notes for Singapore families on Goldendoodle shedding, mini vs standard size, grooming costs, guide price bands and why it is not an HDB-approved breed.

The short answer

A Goldendoodle suits a Singapore family in a condo or landed home whose by-laws allow a medium to large dog. You need time for daily walks in the cooler hours and a budget for professional grooming every six to eight weeks. It is not an HDB dog. A Goldendoodle is a Golden Retriever × Poodle cross, and the Golden Retriever is not on HDB’s approved-breed list. A “mini” label does not change that. And it is not a guaranteed allergy-free dog: coats vary, and many Goldendoodles still shed.

Furgive You SG is an AVS-licensed puppy shop (Licence AS24C00019) at 278 East Coast Road, Singapore 428944, open Tuesday to Sunday, 12pm–6pm, by appointment. Our puppies are ethically imported from overseas breeders. We do not breed locally.

Why people search “goldendoodle singapore”

Semrush search data for Singapore puts goldendoodle singapore at about 260 searches a month (keyword difficulty 6, CPC 0.40), with mini goldendoodle singapore at about 90. This guide covers what the social-media photos leave out.

Goldendoodle vs Golden Retriever in SG homes

Both are friendly, people-focused family dogs, and both need a home with space. The differences are mostly coat and size range.

Our Golden Retriever page describes a double coat you brush two to three times a week and should never shave. A Goldendoodle usually leaves less loose hair around the home, but its coat mats and needs regular clipping. If you would rather brush than book a groomer every six to eight weeks, a Golden may be simpler.

Coat generations & shedding honesty

Our Goldendoodle page describes the coat as wavy fleece and “low-shedding”. Here is what that means in practice:

• Coats vary, even within one litter. A Goldendoodle can take more after its Poodle parent or its Golden parent. Breeders use different crosses and generations to influence the coat, but no generation label guarantees one exact result.

• Many Goldendoodles still shed some. Usually less than a Golden Retriever, but rarely nothing.

• No dog is hypoallergenic in an absolute sense. Allergy reactions depend on the person as well as the dog. If someone at home has dog allergies, spend time with the individual puppy, and ideally adult dogs with similar coats, before you commit. Ask your doctor if the allergy is significant.

• “Low-shedding” does not mean low maintenance. Hair that does not fall out stays in the coat. In Singapore’s humidity it tangles quickly, especially behind the ears, under the legs and around the collar.

Ask us about the individual puppy’s parents and coat rather than relying on a label.

Mini vs standard sizing

The global search terms mini goldendoodle and miniature goldendoodle cover a wide range of dogs, and size names are not standardised. For Singapore buyers, use the figures we actually publish. Our Goldendoodle hub gives:

• Miniatures: about 10–15 kg, satisfied with 30–45 minutes of activity a day plus indoor games.

• Medium and standard: about 20–30 kg and 50–60 cm at the shoulder, needing 60 minutes of daily activity plus real mental work.

Three things matter more than the label:

1. Puppy size is a guide, not a promise. A puppy’s adult size depends on its parents. Ask for the parents’ details.

2. A mini Goldendoodle is still a Goldendoodle for HDB purposes. See the housing section below.

3. Condo by-laws may set their own size or weight limits. Check yours against the upper end of the range, not the lower.

If you are searching mini goldendoodle singapore for a flat, read the housing section first.

Grooming cost reality

Grooming is the line item first-time doodle owners most often underestimate. From our Goldendoodle hub:

• Brush two to three times a week, right down to the skin, not just the top layer.

• Book a professional groom every six to eight weeks.

• Budget S$80–S$140 per grooming session.

• Keep the coat clipped shorter through the year here, because doodle coats trap heat.

• Dry thoroughly after every bath. Damp fur in our humidity is a major cause of hot spots and yeast.

• Check ears weekly. Drop ears plus humidity invite infection.

Six to eight weeks works out to roughly six to nine grooms a year. At the hub’s per-session figure, that is about S$480 to S$1,260 a year on grooming alone. That is our arithmetic, not a salon quote.

For comparison, our Golden Retriever page lists grooming at S$70–S$120 per session every six to eight weeks.

Housing fit (private vs HDB)

HDB flats: no. Under the Housing and Development (Animals) Rules 2024, a residential HDB lessee may keep one dog only, and it must be an “applicable dog”. That means a breed named in the Schedule, or a dog adopted under a rehoming scheme specified on HDB’s website. Separately, eligible handlers with disabilities registered with MSF may keep an assistance dog. HDB’s Keeping Pets page publishes the same list and says flat owners who breach the rule can be fined up to $4,000.

The Schedule is a named list of 61 breeds plus item 62, a “cross of any 2 breeds in items 1 to 61”. It is not a weight or height test. Poodle (Toy or Miniature) is item 42. The Golden Retriever is not on the list. Item 62 needs both parents to be listed breeds. So a Goldendoodle does not qualify, whether it is called mini, toy or standard, and even if the Poodle parent is a Toy or Miniature.

The Rules also say a lessee who wants to keep a dog that is not an applicable dog must get HDB’s prior written permission. Please do not treat that as a route to plan around. HDB’s pets page does not describe a public application for it, and nobody can promise it will be granted. We will not sell a Goldendoodle to an HDB household on the hope that permission comes later. If you live in a flat, start with our HDB-suitable breeds guide.

Condos and landed homes: possibly, after checking. Private housing is outside the HDB Schedule, but MCST by-laws may cap dog size or weight, or restrict lift use and common areas. Check them before you pay a deposit.

Whatever your housing, your dog needs an AVS licence. The AVS website is the official source, and our dog licence guide covers the steps.

Price & what’s included

Our Goldendoodle page gives a guide band of about S$4,500 to S$7,500. Coat and colour, age on arrival and litter size decide where a puppy sits. This is a guide, not a price list. Always confirm an individual puppy’s price with us. If you are comparing goldendoodle for sale singapore listings, check what each price includes.

Our hub lists what is included in our price:

• vaccinations and deworming appropriate to age

• AVS microchip and registration paperwork

• import permits, health certificates and quarantine compliance

• cleared through AVS import checks on arrival in Singapore

• puppy starter kit (a bag of puppy kibble and a training leash)

• lifetime WhatsApp aftercare

Monthly costs. The hub estimates roughly S$180–S$320 a month once your puppy is home. Food (S$80–S$150) and grooming are the biggest lines, followed by parasite prevention (S$30–S$50), annual vet checks (S$150–S$300 a year) and optional insurance (S$40–S$90).

First-year guide. Add twelve months of that to the guide band and you get roughly S$6,660 to S$11,340. That is arithmetic from our published ranges, not a quote. Our puppy price guide estimates one-off set-up items such as a crate, playpen, bedding and grooming tools at about S$400–S$800 more.

For context, our hubs give S$3,800–S$6,000 for a Cavapoo (about 5–9 kg) and S$3,500–S$5,500 for a Maltipoo (about 3–7 kg). Both are much smaller Poodle crosses with their own housing checks.

Temperament with kids

On goldendoodle temperament, our hub describes them as highly intelligent, eager to please, patient with children and sociable with other pets. That matches what most families want. A few realities come with it:

• Size and bounce. A friendly 20–30 kg adolescent can knock over a toddler simply by being happy. Teach “sit to greet” early.

• Puppy mouthing is normal. Children need simple rules: no grabbing, no chasing, and leave the dog alone when it is eating or sleeping. An adult should supervise young children and dogs together.

• Boredom shows up as damage. The hub warns that Goldendoodles get destructive when under-stimulated, so daily training and puzzle work matter even on busy weekdays.

• Socialise early with lifts, corridors and delivery trolleys once your vet agrees.

• Mind the heat. Walk before roughly 9am and after 7pm, carry water, and learn the heat-stress signs our hub lists: heavy panting, brick-red gums, thick drool and wobbliness.

Every dog is an individual. Bring your children to meet the puppy at our showroom, so you can see how they get on before you decide.

FAQs
